Dr. Kort is recognized consultant known for his expertise in the food-water-energy nexus and the creation of a proprietary modeling framework for the environmental assessment of urban food production from recovered resources. His research and interests include bio-agriculture, urban food production, organic resource recovery, carbon farming, and water for agriculture.
Dr. Kort has worked with numerous agencies on watershed planning and nutrient modeling through NGO and public sector outreach, and collaboration with state and federal regulators. He has extensive experience in the cooperative sector, encompassing cooperative economics, strategic planning, board process, and member communication. His experience also includes financial services administration and non-profit management. He also developed curriculum for and co-taught a graduate level course at UW-Milwaukee’s School of Freshwater Sciences on public supply drinking water quality challenges.
Dr. Kort received his PhD in Freshwater Sciences with an Economics and Policy focus from UW-Milwaukee. He also holds an MS in Urban Planning and Public Administration from UW-Milwaukee and a BA in Philosophy and Political science from the University of Minnesota. He serves as board treasurer and administrative manager for the non-profit Milwaukee Bicycle Collective.
